SISC’s holiday gift guide for swimmers 2020

It’s time again for our popular gift guide for swimmers. And this year, since COVID-19 has inspired many of us to try open water swimming, we’re featuring gear to keep you safe and warm both in and out of the water. Best of all, you can shop without leaving home since everything is available online.

Thermometer

Wondering how cold the water is? This thermometer is a must-have for any open water swimming kit. This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Thermometer-1.png

Safety buoy

This brightly colored, inflatable buoy will keep you visible in the water without affecting your performance or strokes. It also features a handy waterproof pocket for carrying personal items while you swim (though we advise double-bagging your phone just in case.)

Swim socks

Made of thin neoprene, these thermal swim socks will keep you warm and protect your feet if you need to clamber over rocks getting in and out of the water.

Weatherproof changing robe

A changing robe is an oversized jacket-like robe that keeps you warm and dry when you’re standing around before swims and, of course, when you get out of the water. For winter swims, a cozy robe can be the difference between taking the plunge and staying at home. Plus, it’s a portable change room for getting dressed discreetly.

There are two types of changing robes: absorbent robes made of toweling or microfiber and “fur-lined” robes that provide insulation. Check out this kit review by the Outdoor Swimming Society to see what’s best for you.
